You can\u2019t smoke anymore so you use a patch, gum, or e-cigarette. This makes the smoker feel miserable when they attempt to quit and they tend to use other substitutes to compensate; they eat or drink instead of smoking<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Nicotine-free substitutes make it harder to quit:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>They still indicate to the smoker who is attempting to quit that they have \u201cquit\u201d something. The feeling of sacrifice is strong and soon the candy bar or chocolate makes the smoker gain weight and become miserable.<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Even calorie-free substitutes make it harder to quit:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>You might think that a carrot stick, or celery stick wouldn\u2019t do any harm \u2013 but they still perpetuate the myth that the smoker has sacrificed something. Sooner or later the feeling of sacrifice gets worse and the smoker returns to smoking<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Does smoking cigarettes make you lose weight?:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Understand that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.allencarr.com\/en-us\/easyway-stop-smoking\/nicotine-addiction-effects\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nicotine<\/a>\u00a0isn\u2019t an effective appetite suppressant. A smoker it does feel like your hunger goes when you have a cigarette. But smokers don\u2019t realise that all that happened was that they ignored their hunger for 5 minutes while they smoked. They don\u2019t realise that non-smokers do this all the time; they simply brush off their hunger. When a non-smoker does this they don\u2019t credit cigarettes (they don\u2019t smoke), yet when a smoker does it they believe the cigarette acts as an appetite suppressant.<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Does nicotine make you skinny?:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Nicotine speeds up your metabolism but it doesn\u2019t do so enough to keep you slim. Smoking simply doesn\u2019t increase your metabolic rate enough to burn the required calories to enable\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.allencarr.com\/en-us\/easyway-weight-loss\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">weight-loss or weight control<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3><strong>There are lots of overweight smokers:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If smoking prevented weight gain then you wouldn\u2019t see so many overweight smokers. In fact, the more people smoke actively or passively \u2013 the more likely they are to be overweight.<\/li>\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Use a method to quit that avoids eating or drinking instead of smoking:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allencarr.com\/en-us\/easyway-stop-smoking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Allen Carr\u2019s Easyway to Quit smoking<\/a> ensures that smokers don\u2019t feel the need to substitute when they quit smoking.
