I am sure that I will succeed\u201d. Isabella, Santiago, Chile<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hey Isabella!<\/p>\n<p>Well done for reaching out \u2014 I\u2019m so pleased that you did. Every little piece of advice you can obtain from us will help to ensure your success and I have some great guidance for you.<\/p>\n<p>Firstly, I\u2019m very sorry to hear about your diagnosis. As former chain-smoker myself I can imagine how you must feel. I lived every day of my life as a smoker waiting for such consequences (or worse).<\/p>\n<p>The wonderful news for you is that when you quit smoking you will quit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/emphysema\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20355555\">emphysema <\/a>in its tracks. As you know \u2014 it is not possible to reverse the disease but by quitting smoking you can slow it down and quit it from getting worse. This means that the future is super-bright for you and your daughter.<\/p>\n<p>Your positive approach is wonderful. You are confident of your success and with Allen Carr\u2019s Easyway to Quit Smoking book (USA\/Canada, UK, Rest of the World), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allencarr.com\/en-us\/easyway-stop-smoking\/on-demand-online-video\/\">online video program<\/a>, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allencarr.com\/en-us\/easyway-stop-smoking\/live-group-seminars\/\">live group seminar<\/a> \u2014 you are right to be so.<\/p>\n<p>One thing I would say is that although it\u2019s natural to attempt to use your fear of the disease and your worry about \u201c<em>being there<\/em>\u201d for your daughter as motivating reasons to quit, I would ask you not to use those factors as your motivation.<\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly those kind of motivations tend to be counter-productive &#038; ineffective as they act as a form of negative pressure.<\/p>\n<p><em>Negative pressure presents itself<\/em> as, \u201cI mustn\u2019t\/can\u2019t smoke because of the disease\u201d, or, \u201cI HAVE to quit because I don\u2019t wish to abandon my daughter\u201d, or \u201cIf I don\u2019t succeed terrible things will occur\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Can you see how those valuable and worthwhile sentiments suddenly create pressure? When a smoker experiences pressure \u2014 what is the first thing that they do? They reach for a cigarette. Our belief is that the cigarette will make things better\u2026as smokers we\u2019re completely unaware that the sense of relief a smoker experiences at those times is phoney &#038; fake \u2014 like a confidence trick or hustle.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than using the disease or the thought of your daughter as your motivation to succeed in quitting \u2014 I would ask you (in the nicest possible way) to ignore those factors in the first instance.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, I want you to quit smoking for one very special, very personal, very selfish reason: <em><strong>that you will simply enjoy your life so much more as a happy non-smoker.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allencarr.com\/en-us\/about-allen-carrs-easyway\/the-allen-carr-easyway-method\/\">Allen Carr\u2019s Easyway<\/a> explains how that seemingly far-fetched dream can become your beautiful reality.
