They seem to make you feel better \u2013 but remember \u2013 all each cigarette does is end the period of dissatisfaction created by the previous one.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s how drug addiction works. That\u2019s how we are fooled into thinking we like smoking \u2013 or at least get some form of help from it.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Have a final cigarette<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You\u2019re going to quit smoking easily so make a solemn vow<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s nothing to quit \u2013 you\u2019re getting rid of something. Have your final cigarette and make a solemn vow that regardless of what highs or lows may come up in future, you will never smoke or take nicotine in any form again.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Be cool about withdrawal symptoms.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Your body will continue to withdraw from nicotine.<\/p>\n<p>The physical withdrawal is very slight, painless and passes quickly. What\u2019s more, smokers experience this all their smoking lives but non-smokers do not . As a non-smoker you\u2019ll soon be free of it forever.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Socialise as normal<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You won\u2019t be craving a cigarette so there\u2019s no need to avoid smokers.<\/p>\n<p>Do not try to avoid smoking situations or opt out of life. Go out and enjoy social occasions right from the start and do not envy smokers.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Think about smoking<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Don\u2019t try to \u201cnot to think\u201d about smoking \u2013 it doesn\u2019t work<\/p>\n<p>If I say: \u201cDon\u2019t think about a banana\u201d, what are you thinking about?<\/p>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>There\u2019s no such thing as \u201cjust one\u201d cigarette after you quit smoking.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The next cigarette is the continuation of a problem not the solution; Understand that each cigarette simply momentarily relieves the discomfort caused by the previous one.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s how addiction works. The more you experience the effect the more convinced you are that the cigarette is solving the problem rather than <em>causing <\/em>it.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Avoid substitutes &amp; vaping<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Nicotine Patches, gums, nasal sprays and vapes make it more difficult to quit because they perpetuate the illusion that you\u2019re making a sacrifice and they keep you addicted to nicotine.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"9\">\n<li>\n<h3><strong>Ditch your cigarettes.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You are already a non-smoker the moment you put out your final cigarette.<\/p>\n<p>Do not keep cigarettes on you or anywhere else in case of an emergency. If you do, it means you\u2019re doubting your decision.
