Not all sugar is bad. The sugar that is found in natural foods such as fruit & vegetables is perfectly designed for us to process and the closer it is to its natural state – the better it makes us feel.
However – it is our instinctive appreciation of those natural sugars that is manipulated by refined sugar – it’s no surprise that many sweet items are carried on the back of natural fruit flavours. Not that they taste particularly natural.
When we consume large amounts of processed/starchy carbohydrates and refined sugar – it has a dramatic impact on our blood sugar levels creating what we perceive as excessive highs and miserable lows. These alone have an impact on our mental state with the lows appearing to get worse and worse. When those lows are relieved by the consumption of more processed/starchy carbohydrates and refined sugar it fools us into believing that those foods created pleasure. We forget entirely that it was the extreme, violent manipulation of our blood sugar levels that created the discomfort of the low in the first place.
Believe it or not – you can quit craving candy and candy immediately. Like most addictions a majority of the problem exists in your mind rather than in any physical withdrawal-like feelings created by the body.
Cravings are created in, and perpetuated by, your mind; the result of thought processes associated with trigger moments when it might normally cross your mind to have something unnaturally sweet or full of processed or starchy carbs. If you re-wire your brain’s thought processes by understanding how sugar, candy, and sweet “treats” & carbs have manipulated your moods, your emotions, and your feelings you can actually thoroughly enjoy thinking about NOT having those sugary things rather than suffer any cravings or feelings of loss.
Sugar cravings and candy cravings, as well as cravings for savory junk food (which are also packed full of refined sugar, processed & starchy carbs) can feel overwhelming and make us feel angry, anxious, irritable, and miserable – but also make us feel awful when we submit to them. Feelings of self-loathing, disappointment in ourselves after a binge, and the gloom and doom we feel as a result of its impact on our body drags us down and makes us feel lost.
Freedom from those awful feelings – the sugar craving, the junk food craving, and the misery that follows our consumption of it all is priceless. The wonderful news is – they all disappear once you’ve got rid of the foods that cause them. Doing that is easy – just as long as you know how – and Allen Carr’s Easyway can help.
