The reality of weight-loss drugs & fast weight regain when you quit
New research shows that individuals who quit their weight-loss medication, known as GLP-1 agonists, regain their lost weight in less than two years – quicker than any other diet plan
The study, led by researchers from the University of Oxford and published in the BMJ, included a review of 37 previous studies on weight loss medication, involving 9,341 participants. The average time for weight loss treatment was 39 weeks followed up by a 32-week monitoring period.
The Findings on Weight Regain
On average, the research found that weight was regained at a rate of 0.4kg per month for people who had quitted using the drug. Participants returned to their original weight within an average of 1.7 years after terminating any form of weight loss medication.
The Underlying Issue of Weight Regain
Dr Sam West, of the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences at the University of Oxford, pointed out rapid weight regain after stopping weight loss drugs wasn’t linked to the medication itself.
He emphasised that it’s crucial to understand the significance of primary prevention and predicted the obesity problem as a chronic, relapsing condition. This finding further underscores the need for a long-term comprehensive approach to weight management.
Comment by Allen Carr’s Easyway
While it’s promising to see advancements in medicinal treatment avenues for tackling obesity and managing Type 2 diabetes risk, it’s crucial to remember that these aren’t definitive solutions. Such medications are only effective tools and need complementary support, including lifestyle changes and healthier food environments, to ensure lasting results.
Allen Carr’s Easyway to lose weight is a diet free method that involves no counting of calories just a natural way to lose weight and maintain it.
