Start quizThe UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has issued its first public alert about contraception and weight-loss medications.
This follows 40 reports of unexpected pregnancies among people using drugs such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro.
Increased Pregnancy Reports Among Weight Loss Medication Users
Women using these drugs have been urged to use effective contraception and not just the pill due to the risk of accidental pregnancy.
Mounjaro specifically was reported to potentially reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives like the pill in individuals who are overweight. The MHRA received 26 pregnancy-related reports linked to Mounjaro.

In addition to the above, the MHRA also states that these drugs should not be administered during pregnancy, while attempting to get pregnant, or while breastfeeding due to the lack of safety data.
Women should continue using contraception for up to two months after stopping the medication before trying to conceive.
Comment by Allen Carr’s Easyway
At Allen Carr’s Easyway, we understand the struggle with weight management and acknowledge the increasing use of weight-loss medications.
However, as with any drug-based solution, there are increasing side effects such as hair loss and now an increased risk of unexpected pregnancy.
There is also the issue that when the person stops taking the drug, it would appear that they quickly put the weight back on again so it is a temporary, not long-term solution.
The best solution is a drug-free approach, that requires no diets but changes how you think about food and particularly ultra-processed food / junk food. Read more about Allen Carr’s Easyway to Lose Weight.
